Job description

Responsible for inspection work in the enforcement of the Florida Building Code and all county codes and ordinances regulating building construction, alterations, and repairs. Work is performed under the general direction of the Building Official

  1. Inspects buildings under construction for compliance with building codes requirements.
  2. Inspects sites before construction for practicability of plans.
  3. Checks sites before footings are poured, and checks construction in progress.
  4. Inspects alteration and repair jobs by checking sites and existing buildings.
  5. Checks roof and foundation connections for building additions and inspects other work in progress.
  6. Prepares reports, inspections, and investigations as required.
  7. Assists and advises contractors, building owners and associates, officials, and the general public.
  8. Also inspects demolitions, site cleanups, docks, davits, seawall repair, pools, patios.
  9. Also performs inspection work in the plumbing, electrical, and mechanical areas (residential).
  10. Inputs, accesses and retrieves data from a computer.
  • Knowledge of building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and zoning codes and related laws and ordinance.
  • Ability to detect faults in the trade in which they are licensed.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, blueprints quickly and accurately, and to compare them with construction in progress.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and maintain adequate and accurate records.
  • Knowledge of building construction materials and methods, and of stages in construction when defects and violations may most easily be observed and corrected.
High school diploma or equivalent; five (5) years’ experience in the inspection field or equivalent.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

Licensed by the Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board of the state of Florida
Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
