Job description

Position Overview

As a Building Inspector for Bunnell Lammons Engineering (BLE), you will serve as a key field representative responsible for ensuring construction activities comply with approved plans, applicable codes, and local ordinances. You will perform inspections across all phases of residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects, evaluating structures for compliance with the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), and other adopted standards while documenting findings in detailed inspection reports. Your role is critical in maintaining the safety, structural integrity, and code compliance of buildings throughout the assigned projects.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect construction activities across residential, commercial, and industrial projects for compliance with approved plans and applicable codes, including IBC, IRC, IECC, and local amendments.
  • Evaluate structural framing, foundations, roofing, insulation, weather barriers, fire-resistive assemblies, accessibility components, and final building finishes.
  • Document findings in detailed inspection reports.
  • Make code-based determinations in fast-paced environments.
  • Test and verify life-safety systems such as egress, alarms, firestopping, and means of escape when applicable.
  • Maintain current knowledge of building codes, local ordinances, and construction best practices.
  • Represent BLE professionally to the public, developers, internal staff, and authorities.
  • Work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions, including early‑morning concrete placements.
  • Use field technology efficiently, including smartphones and computers.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED).
  • 2–5 years of experience demonstrating knowledge of construction.
  • Represent BLE in a professional manner with the public, developers, and internal staff.
  • Perform field inspections of building sites for compliance with approved plans and applicable building codes.
  • Inspect structural framing, foundations, roofing, insulation, weather barriers, fire-resistive assemblies, accessibility components, and final building finishes.
  • Maintain current knowledge of building codes, local ordinances, and construction best practices.
  • Test and verify life-safety systems, including egress, alarms, firestopping, and means of escape when applicable.
  • Valid Driver's License with a Clean Motor Vehicle Driving history (3 years).
  • Ability to work outdoors on a construction site in all seasons and weather conditions for extended periods of time, and during regular construction hours, including early‑am concrete placements.
  • Self-motivated and able to efficiently work independently while completing scheduled tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with team members, BLE leadership, clients, local, state, and federal authorities of all levels.
  • Detail oriented and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  • Basic knowledge of smartphones and computers for communication and record keeping (MS Office applications Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, bend, lift (70–85 pounds), and walk on unstable, unpaved ground.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship and able to interview on site where the position is located.
