Job summary

The Town of Blackstone in Massachusetts is seeking a Local Building Inspector to inspect residential, commercial, and industrial installations for conformance with the MA State Building Code, town by-laws, and regulations. Qualifications

• Must be certified from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Local Inspector at the time of hiring.
• At least 2 years of experience in supervision, building construction, or design.
• Ability to interpret and enforce building codes and zoning laws.

Responsibilities

• Reviews plans and specifications for construction to ensure compliance with the MA State Building Code, Town by-laws, and regulations.
• Performs field inspections to verify work aligns with approved plans and all codes and laws.
• Issues notices or orders to correct unsafe conditions and ensure public safety.
• Interprets and enforces the Massachusetts Building Code and local by-laws.
• Assists in budgeting and department operations for the Inspectional Services Department.
• Develops informational materials and updates the department’s web page.
