Summary
The Building Inspector is a key role, responsible for conducting inspections on commercial electrical systems and residential (1 & 2 family) standard buildings to ensure compliance with local, state, and national building codes. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction, electrical systems, and building inspection procedures.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections of commercial electrical systems to ensure compliance with NEC, local codes, and safety standards
- Inspect residential (1 & 2 family) structures for compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and approved plans
- Verify that construction and installations conform to approved blueprints, specifications, and applicable regulations
- Document findings, issue correction notices, and prepare detailed reports on inspections
- Communicate inspection results with contractors, engineers, property owners, and municipal officials
- Investigate complaints related to building code violations and unsafe structures
- Stay current with changes in building and electrical codes, regulations, and industry best practices
- Attend meetings and provide expertise regarding building safety and code compliance
- Ensure that project requirements are met and compliant with inspection specifications, requirements, and companypolicies or procedures
- Attend all department meetings
- Drive to various job sites at locations both locally and throughout the State of Florida while following all driving laws when operating a company vehicle
- Work varying shift schedules as needed
- Must be willing to travel within the state of Florida, if applicable
- Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy
- Turn in required paperwork daily
- Maintain regular attendance and remain flexible to changing schedules and hours
- Follow all company safety procedures and policies
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing
- Lifting and/or moving up to thirty-five pounds regularly on average, and up to seventy-five pounds on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation
- This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions
- Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles.
- This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
- Office environment for report writing and administrative tasks
- Use of protective equipment as required by safety regulations
Required Qualifications
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
- Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
- High school diploma or equivalent; degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in building inspection, electrical inspection, or related construction fields
- Certification as a Building Inspector (ICC or equivalent)
- Certification in commercial electrical inspection
- Strong knowledge of NEC, IBC, IRC, and local building codes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills
- Proficiency in using inspection software and digital tools
- Ability to wear a cellular phone at all times and return calls promptly
- Physical ability to conduct site visits, climb ladders, and work in varying environmental conditions
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
Preferred Qualifications
- State of Florida Electrical Inspector License
- State of Florida Residential Inspector License
- State of Florida Commercial Building License
- Building Code Administrator
