Job Description

Combination Code Inspectors perform a full range of inspections and evaluations of residential and non-residential buildings and structures, including complex structural and non-structural components such as plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and approved plans and specifications.

Plan Review Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Provide comprehensive non-structural plan reviews for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings to ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards.
• Conduct the majority of structural plan reviews for wood-framed commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, adhering to applicable codes, standards, and engineering principles.
• Assess and address complaints from clients, applicants, the public, designers, contractors, or co-workers.
• Perform basic plan reviews for jurisdictions, including calculating construction valuations, permit fees, processing building permits, and verifying contractor and owner/builder licensing (basic permit technician skills may be required).
• Draft written plan review correspondence and record updates using various computer software programs.
• Explain plan review findings and respond to client inquiries, potentially interacting directly with clients and their staff.

Required Skills

• Current Building Inspector Certifications from ICC.
• Knowledge of the IBC and relevant local codes.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Team player with the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
• Experience as a Building Department plan review and counter technician is advantageous.
• Proficiency in office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.

Required Experience

High School Diploma required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred. 2-5 years of experience performing multiple code inspections as a certified inspector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
