Minimum Qualifications

Building Inspector II:

  • A High School diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in building inspection or construction related field.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in public sector building inspection.
  • Requires current certification as a Residential Combination Inspector and a minimum of two of the following commercial certifications: Building, Electrical, mechanical, or Plumbing, by a nationally recognized organization.
  • Certifications must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public sector building inspector or civil inspection experience is preferred.

Building Inspector III:

  • A High School diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in building inspection or construction related field.
  • Four (4) years’ experience in public sector building inspection.
  • Requires current certification as a Residential Combination Inspector and a Commercial Combination Inspector OR possess a Residential Combination Inspector and possess a minimum of three of the following commercial certifications: Building, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing, and obtain a fourth commercial certification, in order to obtain a Commercial Combination certificate within one year by a nationally recognized organization such as ICC or equivalent.
  • Certifications must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Must demonstrate position aptitude by completing a 60-day field training program prior to appointment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Public sector building inspector or civil inspection experience is preferred.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
  • May be necessary to walk up multiple story stairs for inspections.
  • Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
  • Rotating team member on-call/call-out to respond to commercial and residential structures damaged due to fire, lightning, vehicle impact and/or other emergencies within the Town’s jurisdiction after business hours and on some weekends and Holidays.
