Job summary

The City of Friendswood is seeking a full-time Building Inspector in the Community Development Department. You will enforce building codes and ordinances through plan reviews and construction inspections.

Responsibilities include plan reviews, inspections, permit processing, and coordination with homeowners, HOA, and boards on code interpretation. Emergency readiness may apply during incidents.

Qualifications

• Two years of college or two years' experience in building inspections or code enforcement.
• Knowledge of International Building Code, International Residential Code, plumbing, gas, mechanical, electrical codes; zoning and windstorm construction.
• Texas State Board of Plumbing Inspector License.
• Residential Combination Inspector certification (ICC).
• Valid Texas Driver's License with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans for code compliance and coordinate with architects, engineers and builders.
• Perform building inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and flood control ordinance.
• Prepare correspondence related to inspection activities.
• Data entry of inspection information.
• Assist with enforcement of nuisance, pool fence, substandard structure and sign ordinances.
• Process building permit applications including receipt of fees.
• Coordinate with HOA and boards on compliance prior to permit issuance; engage with boards on code interpretation.
• Perform other duties within assigned areas.

Job description

The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a full-time Building Inspector in the Community Development Department. This position will enforce all City building codes and ordinances by site plan reviews and construction inspections.

WORK PERFORMED:

• Reviews construction plans for compliance with appropriate codes and ordinances and works with architects, engineers and builders to gain compliance.
• Performs all types of building construction inspections to ensure compliance of City's building codes and flood control ordinance.
• Prepares correspondence relations to all phases of inspection activities.
• Computer data entry of all relevant inspections' information activities.
• Assists with the enforcement of the nuisance, swimming pool fence, substandard structure and sign ordinances.
• Processes building permit applications including receipt of fees.
• Works with subdivisions homeowners' associations to achieve compliance prior to approving building permits; and works with the Construction Building Board of Adjustment and the Electrical Board concerning code interpretation.
• Performs other duties within areas of responsibility and ability as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

• Two years of college or two years' experience in building inspections or code enforcement. Combination of other types of pertinent experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of International Building Code, International Residential Code, plumbing code, gas code, mechanical code, national electrical code, state plumbing examiners guide, City codes, sign ordinances, zoning ordinance, and state windstorm resistant construction guide.
• Texas State Board of Plumbing Inspector License
• Certified as Residential Combination Inspector through International Code Council
• Valid Texas Driver's License and good driving record.
