Position Overview

Under immediate supervision, performs non-skilled general cleaning and ground maintenance of the Illinois State Police Academy classrooms, housing areas, offices, common areas and the buildings of the Pawnee Training Facility.

Essential Functions
  • Cleans the Illinois State Police Academy and the Pawnee Training Facility.
  • Applies and/or mixes chemicals to mop, strip, seal, and wax floors.
  • Performs manual building and grounds functions.
  • Take physical inventory of janitorial supplies, linen, furnishings, equipment, and other property items.
  • Adjusts thermostats for energy control programs; completes “work orders” on building and furniture damage; reports and changes burned out light bulbs; inspects locks to ensure they are properly secured.
  • Provides guidance and direction regarding the Academy facilities to new employees and in-house students.
  • Sets up furniture, office equipment, and supplies in rooms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers two (2) years' experience of grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Prefers three (3) years' experience of grounds/building maintenance and building cleaning methods.
  • Prefers three (3) years' experience of the use and care of janitorial cleaning equipment.
Conditions of Employment
  • Pass the Illinois State Police background investigation.
  • Pass the Illinois State Police drug screening.
  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull items weighing 50 pounds, bend, and crawl.
