The City of Greenville seeks a Building Facilities Technician I for Recreation and Parks. Under general supervision, performs skilled maintenance and construction work on City buildings, equipment, facilities, and other properties; performs related work as required.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED with related trades coursework; an associate degree is preferred, plus 6 months to 1 year of building maintenance experience and a valid NC driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with courses in maintenance/building trades; an associate degree preferred.
  • Six months to one year of experience in building maintenance or trades.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry repairs on City buildings and facilities.
  • Install/repair fencing, playgrounds, park amenities, and related equipment.
  • Maintain and operate pool facilities and equipment.
  • Weld repairs on equipment, gates, and handrails as needed.
  • Paint, trim, wallpaper, and general finishing work.
  • Climb ladders and access rooftops in performing maintenance.
  • Respond to essential duties during inclement weather and emergencies.

Job description

The City of Greenville seeks a Building Facilities Technician I for Recreation and Parks. Under general supervision, performs skilled maintenance and construction work on City buildings, equipment, facilities, and other properties; performs related work as required.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

  • Perform carpentry work in the construction and routine maintenance of City buildings, structures, park amenities, and facilities;
  • Install and make repairs to fencing, plumbing, and electrical apparatuses;
  • Perform general painting, trimming, and wallpapering work;
  • climbing on and off rooftops with ladders;
  • working off of various ladders at various heights;
  • Install and finish Sheetrock or plaster, carpeting, and suspended ceilings;
  • Install and repair playground apparatuses, tennis courts, and other outdoor play surfaces;
  • Repair and finish concrete walks, play areas, steps, and other masonry work;
  • Install and repair water lines, fountains, and sprinklers in parks;
  • Perform skilled mechanical work in the operation of swimming pool facilities and equipment;
  • Weld repairs on equipment, gates, handrails, etc..
  • Operate and maintain a variety of machines and equipment as needed;
  • Operate a variety of hand and small power tools;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED supplemented with courses in the maintenance and building trades. An associate's Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Six months to one year of experience in building maintenance and repair or building trades.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:
  • the crafts and skills applicable to building and mechanical maintenance work.
  • blueprint and diagram reading.
Skill in:
  • the use and care of tools and materials used in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, and related maintenance trades.
Ability to:
  • assess damage to buildings, facilities, and equipment and make necessary repairs.
  • use judgment and initiative to complete assigned work with minimum supervision.
  • maintain effective working relationships with the general public and other employees.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, current North Carolina driver's license that is not revoked, suspended, or subject to limited restoration or conditional operation privileges and an acceptable driving record.
  • This position is Essential Personnel; when required, reports to work during inclement weather, natural disasters, and emergency situations.
