Job summary

Raymond in Richmond, VA–Christiansburg, VA, and remote options is seeking a Building Envelope Consultant / QAO to support on-site inspections, testing, and quality assurance on building envelope projects. The role requires field work, collaboration with project teams, and staying current with industry standards.

The ideal candidate has an RRO certification (IIBEC) with 3+ years (or 5+ years in envelope work), strong documentation skills, and the ability to travel up to 50%.

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the United States.
• RRO (Registered Roof Observer) certification from IIBEC with 3+ years of experience, or 5+ years building envelope experience.
• Experience with roofing, waterproofing, and building envelope systems.
• Ability to travel up to 50%.
• Field work on construction sites and documentation skills.
• OSHA 10/30 certification or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site inspections of building envelope systems (roofing, waterproofing, masonry, curtain wall, EIFS, sealants, air barriers).
• Observe contractor work, identify deviations, and communicate deficiencies.
• Prepare daily inspection reports with site conditions, progress, and deficiencies.
• Coordinate with project engineers for resolution and attend pre-construction meetings.
• Review drawings and submittals to confirm requirements before field work.
• Conduct visual surveys, take photos, and document measurements and condition assessments.
• Prepare written reports with findings, recommendations, and conclusions.
• Perform building envelope testing (upon certification) including infrared thermography and moisture scanning.
• Assist with contract administration, submittal reviews, and documentation support.
• Maintain relationships with contractors, clients, and project teams; mentor junior staff.
• Stay current with industry standards (IIBEC, ASTM, AAMA, ASHRAE).
