Job summary

EMCOR Government Services, Inc. seeks a Building Engineer for the Stanford Healthcare Center in Redwood City, CA. You will operate, repair, and maintain building mechanical and electrical systems, including air handling units, pumps, heat exchangers, plumbing, and controls.

• Ability to safely secure hydronic and electrical systems for maintenance.
• Knowledge of building auxiliary systems (fire‑life safety, standby generators, UPS).
• Strong math skills and ability to write and execute written and oral instructions.

Job Summary

EMCOR Government Services is seeking a Building Engineer for use at the Stanford Healthcare Center in Redwood City / Peninsula CA, responsible for operation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of building mechanical and electrical systems, including air handling units, pumps, heat exchangers, plumbing, and control systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operation, replacement, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and control systems (air handling units, pumps, motors, heat exchangers, expansion joints).
• Install electrical circuits.
• Repair restroom fixtures and copper pipe (sell/braze).
• "Safe off" systems as required for repairs.
• Replace ceiling tiles and repair or replace door hardware, locks, and panic bars.
• Perform minor electrical tasks such as bulb and ballast replacement.
• Operate and inspect emergency generators, UPS, and related components.
• Procure necessary materials to complete repairs.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance including filter changes, belt lubrication, control and performance checks of building systems.
• Inspect mechanical and electrical systems, trace circuits, operate switch‑gear, record inspections, and report to supervisors.
• Perform additional duties as required within the scope of contractual obligations.

Qualifications

• Hold an Electrical Trainee card, Journeyman Electrician license, or EPA Universal certification.
• Minimum of five years experience operating central building equipment and HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, or electronic systems.
• Proven experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, project management, sustainability initiatives, and innovative solutions.
• Expertise in repairing building electrical, plumbing, and HVAC auxiliary systems.
• Ability to safely secure hydronic and electrical systems for maintenance.
• Skilled in brazing/soldering copper pipe, thread black pipe, and basic carpentry.
• Knowledge of building auxiliary systems (fire‑life safety, standby generators, UPS) and general building systems (vertical lift equipment, overhead doors).
• Strong math skills, ability to write and execute written and oral instructions, and perform arithmetic calculations.
• Ability to wear a respirator, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, lift heavy objects, and work with hand and power tools safely.
• Hospital experience preferred.

Physical Demands

In an 8‑hour day, must continuously bend, squat, kneel, lift, twist, climb, reach, stand, and walk; use hands for repetitive pushing, pulling, and single grasp motions; and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lb and move objects exceeding 100 lb, including travel by company or government vehicle as required.
