Job summary

Gladstone Institutes is seeking a Building Engineer I/II to operate, maintain, and repair essential mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within our Mission Bay facilities. You will manage boilers, refrigeration, pumps, and air handling components while leveraging CMMS to track work orders and schedules.

The role requires strong troubleshooting, independent method development, and the ability to lead projects or supervise teams as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years hands-on experience with boilers, HVAC, electrical systems, and building automation; work with lab utilities.
• Two or more years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
• Certifications in Boiler Operation, HVAC, Refrigeration, or Building Automation highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems essential to the facility.
• Maintain boilers, pumps, valves, and distribution lines for steam and hot water.
• Service refrigeration components, condensers, evaporators, and air-handling equipment.
• Operate pumping systems and water distribution plumbing.
• Maintain air compressors, filtration, and dryers.
• Support water distribution, filters, sinks, drains, and sprinklers.
• Service electrical motors powering pumps, compressors, and fans.
• Execute work orders promptly and accurately.
• Utilize CMMS to manage work orders and preventive maintenance schedules.
• Navigate Siemens Building Automation System to monitor and control operations.
• Provide emergency response during shifts; commit to on-call at least one week per month.
