Job summary

Chelsea Piers is seeking a Building Engineer to support our growing operations across the New York campus. You will troubleshoot and resolve maintenance and mechanical issues, oversee daily facility tasks, and liaise with vendors and the Chief Engineer to keep our venues running safely and efficiently.

The role requires 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience, a Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, and certifications such as CPO, EPA 608, and FDNY Fire Guard.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience, including troubleshooting and repair of chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers, RTUs, VAV systems, and hydronic heating/cooling systems.
  • Proficiency with BAS/BMS controls and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, plus 3-5 years of experience in facilities mechanical equipment management.
  • Must obtain/maintain Certified Pool Operator (CPO), EPA 608, and FDNY Fire Guard/Certificate of Fitness certifications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Physical Plant and Equipment: Ensure all facility equipment and physical structures are in excellent condition, adhering to safety and operational standards.
  • Mechanical Equipment Management: Manage operation and maintenance of principal mechanical equipment such as pools, steam rooms, saunas, hot yoga rooms, HVAC systems, and elevators.
  • Supervise Daily Operations: Oversee daily facility operations, including maintenance tasks and facility-side activities to ensure smooth operation.
  • Crisis Management: Act as the primary point of contact for crisis and issue management, ensuring swift resolution and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Vendor and Service Contract Management: Manage MEP vendors and service contracts, ensuring adherence to budget constraints while maintaining high-quality service delivery.
  • Team Management: Supervise maintenance technicians to ensure task lists and general cleaning schedules are adhered to efficiently.
  • Project Coordination: Manage and build project task lists, coordinating with maintenance staff to schedule work orders and ensure timely completion.
  • Emergency Response: Utilize staff, service contracts, and emergency contact lists to rectify urgent repairs promptly and effectively.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure all areas of the facility meet safety standards and operate smoothly, conducting regular inspections and implementing necessary improvements.
  • Reporting: Provide comprehensive Daily Activity Reports on mechanical issues and activities to the Chief Engineer.
  • Vendor Relationships: Manage relationships with vendors and contractors, ensuring services are delivered according to agreed terms and resolving any issues promptly.
