Job Description
Key Competencies:Minimum 5 years of comprehensive experience in commerical/industrial automatic temperature controls and HVAC systems. HVAC or Boiler & Pressure Vessel certification required. Strong troubleshooting skills in commercial automatic temperature controls mechanical HVAC equipment. Strong knowledge of control wiring and basic electricity.
Reports To:Chief Operations Officer
General Description: Strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing building automation systems and HVAC control devices on all school utility and refrigeration systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical knowledge in various craft areas; Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, and or Boiler repair in order to support all systems in the school for daily/weekly work assignments. Supervisory and/or management responsibility of maintenance staff and grounds crew. The individual in the role must be available for Call-in work and perform other duties as required/assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms, hallways, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30-40 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40-50 pounds may be required. Other physical activities may be required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards.

The Building Engineer will use the following tools and equipment to perform his/her duties:
Cleaning tools – brooms, mops, scrapers, dust mops, long handle dust pan, squeegee, duster, doodle bug scrubbers, corn broom, shovel, rags, buckets, garden hoses, extension cords, small hand tools, scissors, putty knife, toilet plunger, garden hose nozzle, etc.
Cleaning agents and chemicals – aqua ammonia, Ajax, insect killer, bleach, metal polish, glass cleaner, disinfectant, anti-bacterial gel, skin cleaner, helium, floor cleaner, odor eliminator, oven cleaner, carpet cleaner, pine all, toilet cleaner, traffic lane cleaner, urinal tablets, WD-40, etc.
Power tools – HVAC/Boiler evaluative/diagnostic tools, floor scrubber, floor polisher, vacuum, backpack blower, etc.
Fluorescent light bulbs, incandescent light bulbs, paper napkins, toilet paper, waxpaper bags for sani containers,
Step and extension ladders
Rubber and leather gloves, dust mask
Garbage containers, recycle bins, carts
Chairs (stacking), table (round, rectangle, to 32-kg), chair and table carts
