Job summary

SSH Facilities in Philadelphia is seeking a skilled Building Engineer to support the maintenance of commercial properties. You will complete work orders, perform preventive maintenance, and assist with life safety checks.

This role requires at least 4 years in building maintenance, a toolkit, strong customer service, and the ability to coordinate with contractors. On-call emergencies, documentation, and clear communication with dispatch are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in commercial building maintenance.
• Must have a set of basic hand tools.
• Strong work ethic, dependable, and customer service oriented.
• Clean driving record, no criminal history, and ability to pass a drug screen.
• Computer, phone, written and personal skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Complete work orders within stated time frames.
• Perform preventive maintenance and life safety checks on commercial buildings.
• Estimate repairs for quotes when necessary.
• Oversee work performed by outside contractors.
• Collaborate on large-scale projects as a team.
• Respond to emergencies during on-call rotations.
• Document all work orders and notes accurately and promptly.
• Communicate clearly with dispatch and office staff.

Job description

We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Building Engineer to join our growing team. Experience with commercial building maintenance is required. This role involves completing work orders, project work, and other required tasks within stated time frames. Handyperson, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general construction skills, as well as experience with on-demand maintenance requests, are necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

• Successfully complete work order driven repairs within stated time frames
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and life safety checks on commercial buildings
• Estimate repairs for quotes when necessary
• Oversee work performed by outside contractors, as necessary
• Work as a team on large-scale projects
• Must be available to respond to emergencies during regular on-call rotation
• Complete all work orders and documentation, and notes accurately and promptly
• Communicate clearly and regularly with dispatch and office staff

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in all aspects of commercial building maintenance
• Possess a set of basic hand tools
• Hard working, dependable, a positive attitude, and excellent customer service skills
• Clean driving record, criminal record, and the ability to pass a drug screening
• Computer, phone, written, and personal skills are a plus

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. overhead, climb ladders, and work at heights (e.g., rooftops)
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and move throughout the day
• Maintain a professional appearance at all times
