Position Summary

This position is responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and performing basic repairs in both indoor and outdoor areas of the Utah Cultural Celebration Center (UCCC). Duties include routine cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing walls and windows, and emptying trash, as well as maintaining equipment, fixtures, and furnishings. This full-time position requires a flexible schedule, including availability for nights and weekends, with start and stop times varying based on event schedules. The custodian ensures the facility is clean, safe, and ready for events and daily operations.

Starting Pay: $18.03 - $19.73 per hour; additional pay depending on experience

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Schedule: Full-time 40 hours per week; Friday and Saturday required; Flexible schedule required to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily cleaning of indoor and outdoor facilities, including meeting rooms, common areas, restrooms, kitchens, and office spaces.
  • Vacuum, clean, extract, and maintain carpets and rugs.
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms, toilets, urinals, and tile floors.
  • Clean and polish lighting fixtures, metalwork, mirrors, windows, door panels, sills, and other clear surfaces.
  • Perform hard floor care: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, burnishing, stripping, and refinishing.
  • Empty trash containers and maintain waste receptacles in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Pick up litter in indoor and outdoor areas, including loading docks.
  • Restock consumables such as soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  • Set up and take down rooms for events, including moving furniture, chairs, tables, and equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs, including patching walls, painting, fixing leaks, and replacing door handles.
  • Maintain and operate custodial, kitchen, and office equipment.
  • Perform grounds maintenance tasks such as leaf blowing, watering plants, weeding, and trash pickup, and general upkeep.
  • Assist with snow removal during winter months.
  • Assist with occasional tasks such as lifting/moving heavy items and assembling equipment.
  • Secure the facility after hours by locking doors, closing windows, and setting alarms.
  • Assist with heavy lifting, moving gallery amenities, assembling equipment, and other tasks as needed.
  • Report major damage or repairs to management and oversee necessary repairs.
  • Perform other miscellaneous cleaning tasks and special projects assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing procedures.
  • Basic painting and repair skills.
  • Ability to understand and use proper cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Knowledge of equipment needed to perform duties (e.g., burnishers, buffers, extractors, snow blowers, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one-year related cleaning/janitorial experience.

Language Skills:

  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Spanish fluency preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must possess a valid Utah Driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one.
  • Must be able, willing to use, and certified in arial work platforms, including scissor and boom lifts.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must occasionally work in hot, cold, or inclement weather.
  • Ability to climb ladders, operate power equipment, and handle various tools and equipment.
  • Must be able and willing to use and be certified in arial work platforms, including scissor and boom lifts.
  • Must be able and willing to operate vacuums, sweepers, auto-scrubbers, buffers, extractors, snowplow, snow blower, and other equipment.

Work Environment:

  • Comfortable office environment.
  • Occasional out-of-office work, including indoor and outdoor events.
  • Exposure to varying levels of stress due to human behavior, workload, deadlines, and multiple tasks and assignments.
  • May need to work extended irregular hours when needed.
