Portland Public Schools is seeking a Building Custodian III, Shift Supervisor for the 2nd shift at Deering High. Under supervision, you will supervise custodians, perform cleaning and facilities maintenance, and assist the head custodian.

Work hours are Monday–Friday 2:30–11:00 PM. The position requires a high school diploma or GED; Maine fingerprint clearance is required; wage range $22.14–$28.36 per hour, with eligibility for benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under general supervision, supervises custodians and performs building cleaning and facilities maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. Assists the head custodian in completing required tasks and may take direction directly from the building administrator if working alone on the day shift. The second shift custodial supervisor conducts on the job training in the application of simple manual skill and use of cleaning and grounds tools and equipment, and supplies to clean interior of buildings and limited maintenance of school grounds.

The nature of the work is repetitive and requires sustained physical effort and involves some heavy work in moving or lifting furniture and equipment with some exposure to accident and injury hazards and disagreeable elements. Custodian shift supervisors who possess the appropriate certificate may be assigned responsibility for checking or operating heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning equipment. Employees in these classes are considered emergency personnel and are required to report to buildings during inclement weather.

Work hours will be Monday–Friday, 2:30–11:00 PM.
