Summary

Performs custodial maintenance and cleaning within the school building; supervises the work of custodial staff; serves as the Head Custodian in elementary schools or as lead custodian for evening shifts at middle/high schools.

Essential Duties

1. Maintain the building and grounds in acceptable condition.
2. Prioritize and assign work for custodial staff.
3. Instruct staff in the proper use of supplies and equipment.
4. Clean fixtures, windows, walls, furniture, blinds, bleachers, and stadium.
5. Use equipment for scrubbing, buffing, and waxing floors.
6. Prepare for and clean up after school events.
7. Operate carpet cleaning and maintenance equipment.
8. Shut off electrical, water, and gas as needed; ignite pilot lights on appliances and boilers.
9. Lead custodial staff in the absence of higher-level custodians.
10. Manage inventory and perform minor repairs.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years custodial experience.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to operate cleaning and heating equipment.
• Ability to lead staff and follow directions.
• Physical ability to lift over 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform manual labor.
