Longmeadow Public School District is hiring for a Building Custodian - Floater on the 2nd shift to maintain a safe, clean and orderly school environment.

The role reports to the Head Building Custodian/Facilities Director and requires readiness to handle overtime for emergencies and events, with responsibilities ranging from general cleaning to minor repairs to support continuous operations.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma desirable.
  • Satisfactory health as evidenced through physical examination by physician.
  • Must be able to lift 50-60 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all staff.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Such alternative to above qualifications as the School Committee or Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

  • Keep building and premises clean at all times.
  • Regulates HVAC to maintain seasonal temperatures and efficiency.
  • Shovels, salting, and maintains sidewalk/driveways as needed.
  • Checks daily to ensure exits are open and panic bolts work during occupancy.
  • Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture.
  • Cleans corridors daily.
  • Disinfects toilets, floors, and fountains daily.
  • Washes windows as needed.
  • Keeps grounds free of rubbish.
  • Mows lawns and performs yard-keeping tasks as needed.
  • Makes minor building and equipment repairs as capable.
  • Remains on premises during school hours and when required by the Principal.
  • Reports damages to property immediately to Head Custodian/Principal.
  • Opens/closes building and ensures doors/windows are secured.

Job Description

REPORT TO: Head Building Custodian/ Facilties Director

JOB MISSION: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

  1. 1.Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas meat and clean at all times.
  2. 2.Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
  3. 3.Shovels, operates snow blower and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate.
  4. 4.Checks daily to insure all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
  5. 5.Sweeps classrooms daily, and dusts furniture.
  6. 6.Cleans corridors each day.
  7. 7.Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors, sanitary fixtures, and drinking fountains daily.
  8. 8.Washes windows inside and out, as needed.
  9. 9.Keeps grounds free of rubbish.
  10. 10.Performs such yard-keeping chores as mowing, shrub trimming and the like as necessary to maintain the school grounds.
  11. 11.Makes minor building and equipment repairs as he/she is capable of.
  12. 12.Remains on the premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the Principal.
  13. 13.Reports immediately to the Head Custodian, how reports to the Principal, any damage to school property.
  14. 14.Assumes responsibility for the opening and/or closing of the building and determining that all doors and windows are secured and that all non-essential lights and mechanical equipment are turned off.
  15. 15.Moves furniture and equipment within the building for various activities as directed by the Principal.
  16. 16.Complies with local laws for the storage and disposal of trash.
  17. 17.Use equipment, tools, and materials normally associated with custodian work.
  18. 18.Must be willing to work overtime in emergency situations and to cover special events.
  19. 19.Such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full year position

SALARY RANGE: In accordance with the current Agreement between the Longmeadow Education Association (Unit H) and the Longmeadow School Committee.
