Greater Southern Tier BOCES in Elmira, NY, invites applications for a full-time 1.0 FTE Teaching Assistant focused on Building Construction. The role supports instructing juniors and seniors, collaborates with Building Construction staff, and helps provide hands-on skills to prepare students for college and career readiness.

Candidates should have extensive Building Trades experience, a NYS Teaching Assistant Certification Level 1 (or eligibility), and the ability to supervise students in class

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with Building Trades is required.
• Experience in residential home building including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, roofing, and drywall.
• Ability to handle heavy lifting and willingness to work outdoors.
• Experience working with secondary students in classroom and hands-on settings.
• Valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification or eligible to obtain Level 1.

Responsibilities

• Assist with instructing juniors and seniors with rigorous and engaging classroom instruction, and hands-on skills that will prepare students to be college and career ready in the Building Construction industry
• Collaborate with the Building Construction counterparts on maintaining a high quality program
• Assist with providing supervision and classroom management to all students
• Assist with classroom management in the classroom and work sites
• Assist in monitoring students’ academic progress including, but not limited to progress/marking period grades, attendance, hands-on performance skills
• Assist with implementing 504 Accommodation Plans and IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) for students with diverse learning needs
• Keep current with changes and developments in the Building Construction industry
• Assist in communicating regularly with parents, teachers, home school counselors and all others involved with the education of all students

• Carry out all other duties as assigned
