Building Construction Inspector – Hampton Roads, VA

Dewberry is seeking a Building Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management Group in and around the Hampton Roads, VA area. The Construction Buildings Inspector will monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with contract documents for commercial/industrial construction projects of moderate to considerable complexity. The successful candidate will manage assigned project elements, assure quality of the contractor’s compliance, manage project inspection personnel and serve as owner’s representative.

Responsibilities

• Proactively identify field issues and develop solutions to keep work moving.
• Monitor operations to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract terms, and specifications.
• Coordinate and schedule various phases of construction inspection with the contractor, DGS representatives, and other agencies.
• Review construction plans, inspect commercial or industrial buildings and other structures to determine compliance with applicable local, state, and national codes.
• Have familiarity with structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety building components.
• Document all field activities; work collaboratively with the owner and contractor; represent Dewberry and our clients professionally.
• Identify necessary changes to construction plans to meet field conditions.
• Make field measurements of pay items.
• Observe and monitor contractor’s construction equipment.
• Use common computer programs such as MS Word and Excel to complete daily diaries, quantity calculations, and other required tasks.

Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree (preferred) or 5+ years of related experience.
• C5 Commercial Combination Inspector ICC inspector certification (preferred).
• B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification (preferred).
• E2 Commercial Electrical Inspector certification (preferred).
• M2 Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification (preferred).
• P2 Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification (preferred).
• Working knowledge of commercial or residential building construction processes, applicable building codes, and inspection techniques.
• Proficiency with document management software and construction management software (e.g., Smartsheet, SharePoint, FieldWire, GoCanvas, PlanGrid, PowerBI, and other project and construction management programs).
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Driving is a requirement of the position; a clean driving record is required.
• Ability to work as a team player.
