Job summary

City of Atlanta is seeking a Building Inspector to perform inspections of commercial, industrial, and residential structures for code compliance. The role involves interpreting building codes, coordinating with architects and contractors, and issuing notices for non-compliance.

Qualified candidates will hold multiple ICC/IAPMO certifications and have at least two years in building trades. This on-site position is part of City Planning, with supervision over inspection work and reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED. Two (2) years of experience in building trades; OR an equivalent combination of closely related education, training, and work experience.
• Must have a minimum of four (4) of the following certifications: Residential Building Inspector ICC; Residential Plumbing Inspector ICC or IAPMO; Residential Mechanical Inspector ICC or IAPMO; Residential Electrical Inspector ICC or IAEI; Commercial Building Inspector; Commercial Mechanical Inspector; Commercial Plumbing Inspector; Commercial Electrical Inspector.

Responsibilities

• Inspects the quality of construction, alterations, or repairs of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings and other structures to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Issues notices to identify corrections required for compliance or to stop work on projects.
• Interprets and explains requirements related to building codes and regulations; develops alternative methods for compliance.
• May assist with scheduling inspections and reviewing plans in compliance with codes and regulations.
