Under the direction of the Senior Electrical Inspector, the Electrical Inspector is responsible for enforcing electrical building codes in Allen County. This position is Covered as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

The Electrical Inspector is expected to perform accurate field inspections, ensuring compliance with building codes and effectively communicating with contractors to resolve violations. The role requires maintaining detailed records and providing clear guidance on code requirements. The work is complex and broad in scope, requiring sound judgment to apply the most relevant guidelines, particularly when investigating complaints related to electrical systems. Strong communication and technical skills are essential for interpreting complex codes and resolving issues. Additionally, the inspector must maintain a valid license, be available for on-call duties, and handle tasks with professionalism and accuracy.
RESPONSIBILITY:
The Electrical Inspector provides substantial contributions when providing explanation and guidelines of state and local codes. Deviations from guidelines must be referred to the supervisor. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and conclusions.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
The Electrical Inspector maintains frequent communication with other county employees, other county and government agencies, contractors, and the general public when conducting inspections and explaining, interpreting and enforcing codes.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The Electrical Inspector performs field inspections, exposed to various weather conditions and physical hazards normally associated with construction sites and other inspection areas. Frequent typing, attention to detail, monitoring equipment, detailed inspection, and transcription/proofreading are required. The Electrical Inspector performs work that requires lifting, reaching over head, kneeling, and climbing ladders with frequent bending, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to noise and dangerous equipment.

Valid Journeyman’s License in electrical or Allen County Contractors License, or Valid Inspector Certification (or equivalent from another jurisdiction as an electrical contractor
Valid Driver’s License to perform field inspections and/or to operate county owned vehicles required
