Job summary

Keolis Commuter Services (KCS) on the MBTA network seeks a skilled Machinist (Bridges & Buildings) to maintain movable bridges, pumps, doors, and associated metalwork across MA rail properties. The role requires hands-on fabrication, precision fitting, and the ability to travel to multiple Keolis sites daily.

Union pay rates apply starting at $40.58 per hour; high school diploma and relevant trade experience preferred; must pass physicals and hold a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• Trade and/or vocational training preferred.
• Must have experience in one of the following: piping, machine work, steel work, welding or associated craft.

Responsibilities

• Perform activities such as fitting together metal pieces of movable bridges, shaping, turning, boring, planning, grinding, finishing or adjusting metal parts of a machine and pipes.
• Work on compressors, moveable doors, pump houses, millwright type of work, etc.
• Involves working outside of all types of weather conditions year-round as assigned.
• Includes work at varying heights on bridges, roofs, etc.
• Requires daily travel to various Keolis sites and properties.
• Comply with all related safety rules and procedures and report all hazards as required.
• Attend and participate in all assigned training, specifically safety and security related.

Machinist (Bridges & Buildings)

The B&B Machinist maintains MBTA properties and commuter rail system within the Engineering Department.

Rate of pay: This is a unionized position. The pay rates are non-negotiable. The starting pay rate for this position is $40.58

Knowledge and Skills:

• Must be able to use basic hand tools, lift, bend, and stoop and carry heavy loads.
• Must be able to communicate successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff.
• Ability to communicate in English with relative ease.

Experience:

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• Trade and/or vocational training preferred.
• Must have experience in one of the following: piping, machine work, steel work, welding or associated craft.
• Must pass a physical examination.
• Must possess valid driver’s license.
• Satisfactory prior work history.

Effort Factors:

Physical/Mental Demands

• Work involves walking, talking, hearing, climbing, balancing, lifting using
• both hands and both arms (up to 50 pounds), bending and driving.
• Ability to perform all duties mentioned above.

Shift Work: May be required to work off shifts for special projects.

Travel: Daily travel to various Keolis sites.

Work location: Must be willing and able to travel to any of our MA Commuter Rail locations as required

On-Call: As per collective agreement.

Teamwork: Work as part of the Engineering Department team.
