Role Description

The Building Automation Technician/Programmer is a full-time, hybrid role based in Johnson City, TN, with some work-from-home flexibility. This position is responsible for installing, configuring, and programming building automation systems, including control devices, sensors, and controllers, to support efficient operation of HVAC and related systems. Day-to-day tasks include commissioning systems, performing field diagnostics, troubleshooting control issues, and conducting preventive maintenance to ensure reliable performance. The role also involves interpreting plans and specifications, assisting in system design modifications, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and clients to implement tailored automation solutions. Documentation of work performed, updating system databases, and providing technical support and training to end users and internal team members are also key responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for building automation systems, controls, and related mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of automation concepts, including control logic, PLCs or similar controllers, and integration of field devices and sensors.
  • Foundational understanding of electricity, including wiring, low-voltage control circuits, and safe work practices.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance on automation or HVAC control systems to ensure reliability and optimal performance.
  • Familiarity with robotics or advanced automated systems is beneficial for working with complex building controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and control sequences.
  • Proficiency with computer-based tools, including building automation software, HMIs, and basic networking concepts.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, engineers, and field teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for documentation, scheduling, and project follow-through.
  • Relevant technical certification or associate degree in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or automation technology is preferred.
  • Comfort working in a mix of on-site and remote environments, with a commitment to safety and continuous learning.
