Position Title

Building Automation Systems Project Manager

Position Location

Remote – work virtually from anywhere in the United States (Eastern Time Zone candidates preferred)

Job Summary

The Building Automation Systems Project Manager is responsible for supporting all aspects of the project. This person will work as part of the project team and interact closely with the owner, designers, contractors, subcontractors, and other trades on projects in commercial and mission‑critical environments. The role may assist with the permitting process, evaluating bid proposals, developing construction master plans and schedules, performing site inspections, and facilitating communication to ensure compliance with owner’s requirements, applicable laws and specifications. The Project Manager will receive limited direction on day‑to‑day work and general instruction on new projects or assignments, working independently or under limited supervision. The Project Manager will communicate and operate in line with organizational and client goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.

Essential Functions
Manage all Elements of Routine Projects (60%)
  • Evaluate and review subcontractor proposals and provide recommendations on contract award
  • Coordinate pre‑construction elements including project initiation, kickoff, contract and subcontract reviews and setup
  • Coordinate construction elements including MOPs, RFIs, and submittals
  • Coordinate and support resource and material forecasting
  • Develop, manage and monitor schedule
  • Participate in, schedule and lead project meetings (internal and external)
  • Coordinate/perform QA/QC plans and specifications to ensure completion in accordance with the project scope and appropriate guidelines and manuals
  • Oversee/subordinate subcontractor and subconsultant activities
  • Assist in cost and time schedules for proposed work, assign and schedule duties for project team members
  • Coordinate or oversee start‑up, cutover, pre‑functional and functional testing and project closeout
Monitor and Control Project Financials (15%)
  • Prepare, forecast and monitor project budgets, profitability, margins, bill rates and utilization and maintain overall responsibility for the profitability of the project
  • Communicate with the client when additional fees / change orders are required
  • Identify potential project risks and develop/implement strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines
  • Support and develop cost schedules / schedules of value for client progress billing
Manage Stakeholder Relations (10%)
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, presentations and the overall marketing efforts of the firm
  • Assist in the promotion of the firm, services and expertise to existing or potential clients
  • Maintain client relationships to ensure an ongoing positive relationship and work with clients to identify and develop new projects
  • Support contact for clients and build effective, long‑term client relationships
  • Ensure client satisfaction through active communication
Administrative (15%)
  • Provide daily reporting via narrative and photographic documentation
  • Assist in project contract administration
  • Manage personal and project hours using company tools
  • Create/complete project and departmental reports
Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget

Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned

Position Requirements (intermediate Level For All The Following)
  • Knowledge of project management software including MS Project and Procore
  • Knowledge of open‑source protocols (BACnet, Modbus and SNMP)
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and exceptional organizational skills for file management
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company‑wide innovation
  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication and organizational skills, self‑motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction‑free workspace
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non‑technical information)
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision

Physical Demands
  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position
  • Frequently moving through office, facility and other environments
  • On occasion, the employee may move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
Travel Requirements
  • Approximately 20% travel, including any or all 50 U.S. states
  • Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position
  • Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
Education / Experience Requirements
  • B.A. / B.S. degree, or equivalent in‑field construction experience (or two years of additional experience in a related field in lieu of a degree)
  • Minimum of five years of experience in building automation systems / controls with at least two of those in a project management role
