Description

The Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer will be a key player in maintaining, optimizing, and improving our building automation systems in our buildings. This role will serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for Building Automation Systems (BAS), acting as a liaison between our internal project teams, contractors, and vendors. The role will report to the Building Automation Systems (BAS) Manager.- Collaborate and support our Facility Operations Center (24/7) team’s critical monitoring scope with advanced troubleshooting and remediation activities. (ex. troubleshooting issues like network connectivity, sensor failures, and control logic errors.)- Partner with a variety of service providers who support the portfolio, manage service requests, and ensure we meet the high standards of safety, quality, and client satisfaction.- Develop, maintain, and implement controls software templates and standards for our BAS platforms.- Supports project reviews for accuracy and adherence to our guidelines including submittals, as-built drawings, SOOs, commissioning documents, etc. as required for assigned buildings.- Coordinates with Building Management to schedule and oversee service requests, ensuring minimal disruption to building operations during initial installation, start-up, and commissioning.- Ensures timely software backups are performed for key BAS infrastructure (servers, controllers, etc).- Perform periodic audits and baselines of installed control systems as delivered / installed.- Must be able to multi-task, deal with ambiguity, and be flexible with your schedule in a results-oriented environment.- Operate with an entrepreneurial spirit by taking initiative and always challenging yourself and the team to improve our operational efficiencies and end-to-end experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building automation principles, and control theory.
  • Proficiency in programming and configuring BAS controllers, specifically with the Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Automated Logic Corporation based BAS platforms.
  • Experience with industry-standard communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks).
  • Knowledge of building codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, LEED).
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting construction documents and specifications.
  • Excellent project management skills and strong ability to develop detailed project scope to address identified operational issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams to resolve facilities escalations.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Deep understanding of Niagara station architecture, including drivers, devices, points, schedules, alarms, histories, and user management.
  • Strong ability to verify system wide performance criteria, system design specifications and control strategies are met and clearly communicate any deficiencies if they are not met.
  • Knowledge of Apple software and hardware ecosystem, including Mail, Keynote, Pages, iCloud, and AppleScript.
  • Proficiency in Java (highly desirable, as it's used for custom Niagara module development and advanced scripting).
  • Familiarity with database systems (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) for data logging and reporting.
  • Knowledge of common HVAC and electrical building codes (e.g. California Title 24, ASHRAE Guideline 36, etc.).
  • Exercise critical thinking skills, anticipating the needs of others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Including, the ability to distill a relatively complex idea into an easily understood explanation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize with a constant focus on deadlines.
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $133,900 and $201,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
