In this role, you'll recruit highly skilled professionals including Controls Technicians, BAS/BMS Programmers, Controls Engineers, System Integrators, Project Managers, Commissioning Specialists, and other technical professionals who design, install, program, and maintain building

Qualifications

• 2+ years recruiting experience in Building Automation, BAS, BMS, or related technical field-service roles.
• Ability to understand and communicate technical job requirements in the building automation industry.
• Proven sourcing experience using LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards, referrals, and networking strategies.
• Comfortable outbound calling, relationship-building, and closing candidates in competitive labor markets.
• Experience using an applicant tracking system (Greenhouse preferred).

Kelso Building Services, part of Kelso Industries, is seeking a driven, relationship-focused Building Automation & Controls Recruiter to help grow our workforce across the building automation, controls, and smart building industries. In this role, you'll recruit highly skilled professionals including Controls Technicians, BAS/BMS Programmers, Controls Engineers, System Integrators, Project Managers, Commissioning Specialists, and other technical professionals who design, install, program, and maintain building automation systems.

This position plays a critical role in supporting our operating companies by identifying and engaging top controls talent in a highly competitive market. Success requires strong sourcing skills, technical recruiting aptitude, and the ability to build relationships with both candidates and hiring leaders.

This role is hybrid, with a strong preference for candidates who can work from our Draper, UT office.

Responsibilities

Recruiting & Talent Sourcing

• Source and recruit Building Automation, Controls, and Smart Building professionals across multiple markets
• Develop pipelines of qualified Controls Technicians, BAS/BMS Programmers, Controls Engineers, Commissioning Specialists, Project Managers, and related technical talent
• Conduct high-volume outbound sourcing through calls, texts, emails, LinkedIn Recruiter, industry networks, referrals, and trade associations
• Post and maintain job openings across recruiting platforms and industry-specific channels
• Review applications and proactively engage qualified candidates
• Build and maintain talent communities for recurring and hard-to-fill controls roles
• Utilize market intelligence and competitive talent mapping to identify recruiting opportunities

Hiring Partnership & Workforce Planning

• Partner closely with hiring managers and operational leaders to understand technical requirements and hiring priorities
• Gain an understanding of building automation platforms, controls technologies, commissioning processes, and field service functions
• Advise hiring teams on labor market trends, compensation expectations, and candidate availability
• Assist in developing compelling job advertisements and recruitment campaigns
• Support workforce planning initiatives to meet business growth objectives

Employer Brand & Industry Engagement

• Represent Kelso at industry events, technical schools, career fairs, trade association meetings, and community outreach activities
• Build relationships with controls professionals and industry networks
• Promote Kelso's culture, growth opportunities, and commitment to innovation within the building automation industry
• Support recruiting marketing initiatives that strengthen employer brand awareness

Candidate Experience, Process & Metrics

• Deliver a professional, responsive, and positive candidate experience
• Coordinate interviews and maintain consistent communication throughout the hiring process
• Maintain accurate candidate records and recruiting activity within Greenhouse (ATS)
• Track recruiting metrics including candidate pipeline health, source effectiveness, time-to-fill, and hiring outcomes
• Identify opportunities to improve recruiting processes, efficiency, and candidate engagement

Hiring Execution & Support

• Coordinate background checks, references, and pre-employment requirements
• Assist with offer development and candidate closing activities
• Manage multiple openings simultaneously while maintaining quality and urgency
• Support hiring for related technical, engineering, project management, and operational roles as business needs evolve

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred
• 2+ years of recruiting experience supporting Building Automation Systems (BAS), Building Management Systems (BMS), controls, HVAC controls, systems integration, commissioning, engineering, construction technology, or related technical field-service roles
• Experience recruiting for positions such as Controls Technician, Controls Engineer, BAS Programmer, Systems Integrator, Field Service Technician, Project Manager, or Commissioning Specialist preferred
• Ability to understand and communicate technical job requirements within the building automation industry
• Proven sourcing experience using LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards, referrals, and networking strategies
• Comfortable making outbound calls, building relationships, and closing candidates in competitive labor markets
• Experience utilizing an applicant tracking system (Greenhouse preferred)
• Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to travel locally or regionally for hiring events, industry networking opportunities, and business meetings

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience recruiting within Building Automation, HVAC Controls, Energy Management, Mechanical Systems, Smart Buildings, or Industrial Automation
• Familiarity with platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Trane, Distech, Alerton, Niagara, Automated Logic, or similar BAS technologies
• Knowledge of commissioning, controls installation, programming, and service-related career paths
