Job summary

Tyson Foods is seeking a maintenance technician in the United States to perform general building and equipment upkeep, including snow removal and acting as back-up to the shag driver and forklift operator. The role requires safe operation of rolling stock and routine facility maintenance.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with an associate degree in a mechanical trade preferred, and strong plumbing, electrical, and lighting knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • General repair and maintenance of building, forklifts, pallet jacks, company vehicles, and all other equipment or buildings owned by the company
  • Maintain company grounds inclusive of snow/ice removal, lawn work
  • Maintenance and safe operation of all company rolling stock; back-up Shag Driver and Certified Fork Lift Operator
  • Repair and replacement of facility lighting
  • Repair of facility plumbing needs
  • Trash removal from the facility
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the truck sheds, loafing shed, and maintenance shop
  • Sweeping of the parking lot
  • Maintain the bone yard and inventory if needed
  • Assist with roof repairs and clean-up
  • All other essential duties as directed by the maintenance manager

Job Details:
SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for general building and equipment maintenance inclusive of snow removal in the winter and acting as back-up to the shag driver and waste water treatment positions as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
  • General repair and maintenance of building, forklifts, pallet jacks, company vehicles, and all other equipment or buildings owned by the company
  • Maintain company grounds inclusive of snow/ice removal, lawn work
  • Maintenance and safe operation of all company rolling stock; back-up Shag Driver and Certified Fork Lift Operator
  • Repair and replacement of facility lighting
  • Repair of facility plumbing needs
  • Trash removal from the facility
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the truck sheds, loafing shed, and maintenance shop
  • Sweeping of the parking lot
  • Maintain the bone yard and inventory if needed
  • Assist with roof repairs and clean-up
  • All other essential duties as directed by the maintenance manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to carry out essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, within safety guidelines
  • Ability to operate all rolling stock efficiently, within safety guidelines
  • Ability to efficiently use hand tools and trades type tools, to provide maintenance of facility as required
  • Good mechanic background required
  • General knowledge of vehicle maintenance including preventative and scheduled maintenance.
  • Good plumbing skills
  • General knowledge of electrical and lighting
  • Clean drivers license with the ability to obtain a CDL
  • Willingness to work overtime and be called into work for emergency situations as required
Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Associates degree or equivalent in mechanical trade preferred
Communication Skills:
  • Must be able to communicate within the department and understand directions
Physical Requirements / Environment:
  • Stand/Walk: Continuously
  • Lift/Carry: Frequently (1-10 lbs), Occasionally (up to 35-50 lbs.)
  • Other Physical Requirements:
    • Frequently; bend/stoop, squat, crawl, climb, reach above shoulder (up to 2 ft.), crouch, kneel, push/pull, grasp
    • Continuously; working around moving machinery, in areas with marked changes in temperature and humidity, exposure to dust and fumes, occasionally working at unprotected heights, around and amongst dead birds and a strong chicken odor
