The City of Cincinnati is seeking a Supervisor of Custodial Maintenance to oversee custodial staff and ensure the maintenance of city facilities. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in commercial maintenance and supervisory roles, along with a thorough understanding of safety and operational standards. This position requires excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively manage a team and interact with various stakeholders.
Supervises, assigns and monitors the work of employees responsible for custodial care, and maintenance of assigned facilities and grounds; performs administrative tasks as assigned.

Knowledge of:
Methods and techniques of management, motivation and persuasion.
Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
City personnel policies and procedures, civil service rules and regulation.
Union contracts; grievance procedures.
Basic English grammar, usage and spelling; correspondence formats.
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
Custodial care and maintenance processes, techniques, and equipment.
Basic technical principles of equipment operation.
Building and facility maintenance techniques and standards.
Fencing, security gates, and associated controls.
Knowledge of landscaping techniques and methods (trimming, planting and maintaining landscape beds, planting and maintaining lawns is required, etc.)
Ability to:
Supervise, organize and review the work of lower-level staff.
Select, supervise, motivate, train and evaluate staff.
Interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
Prepare clear and concise reports.
Maintain appropriate records.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Assist lower-level staff when needed.
Manage work in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including contractors, City officials, and the general public.
Perform basic mathematical computations.
Operate assigned vehicle.

Supervise employees responsible for custodial care, and maintenance, of facilities or buildings; ensure that all assigned employee tasks are completed; review completed work in accordance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures; take corrective action as necessary; maintain records of employee attendance, performance, vacation time, etc.
Train subordinate field employees in proper techniques for performance of job duties; instruct employees on safe work practices; prepare documentation of safety procedures; enforce all safety guidelines.
Monitors buildings, grounds and facilities to determine custodial care, building condition and grounds keeping requirements for quality, quantity, and safety of work.
Prepare progress reports and other informational reports weekly and monthly as assigned.
Monitor facility and building facets such as locking systems, fire detection, fire protection, elevators, lighting and snow removal.
Investigate accidents and injuries on the job ; instruct employees in completion of accident forms; direct employee to appropriate resources if personal problems are affecting job performance; respond to employee grievances.
Discuss department issues with supervisory personnel; address concerns and problems.
Assist those contacted in the course of duty in an effective, efficient professional manner.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Open:
Each applicant must have three years of full-time experience in commercial building and grounds maintenance within the past five years. Experience must be in operating building and grounds equipment, (e.g. mowers, chain saws, trucks, trailers, buffers, sweepers, pressure washers, snow plows, hand tools) . Prior supervisory experience preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a Valid Driver's License.
Additional Exam Information:
Credit for Military Service: Special credit for honorable military service is given (1) only to Ohio residents, (2) who successfully complete all portions of the testing process, and (3) who provide Human Resources a long-form copy of your DD-214 confirming an honorable discharge (Character of Service Box 24 on DD-214). Disabled veterans shall receive ten preference points and non-disabled veterans shall receive five preference points. Veteran's points will be added only to passing scores.
Background Investigation: A criminal background investigation will be conducted for this position (according to Civil Service Commission Rule 15 – Sensitive Classifications/Positions and the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act of 2001 and the Patriot Act). The purpose is to detect security risks and prevent security threats posed by potential employees.
U.S. Citizenship: All positions with the City of Cincinnati require that each applicant be a citizen of the United States or have a valid permanent resident card at the time of appointment (date of hire).
Environmental Conditions: Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to extremes in weather condition; work with machinery, around moving vehicles; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; exposure to dust, exhaust fumes, toxic chemicals.
Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; moderate lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity required; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
