Job description

Artisan · Full-time · In person in San Francisco or New York

Salary: $130,000–$230,000 USD annually. Equity: 0.08%–0.20%. US visa sponsorship available.

Build AI products from the first idea to production

Artisan builds AI employees that take on real work. We're looking for Builders who can understand a customer problem, decide what the product should do, design the experience, and ship the code.

You'll own that whole process. You'll work directly with our CEO, Jaspar, and use your product judgment, design taste, and engineering ability to turn an unclear problem into something customers can use. Our ambition gives you plenty to build. Your judgment determines what deserves to ship first.

You should enjoy the responsibility that comes with that freedom. We expect you to make decisions, test them with customers, and stay accountable for the product after launch.

What you'll own
  • Talk to customers, study how they work, and identify problems worth solving. Bring a clear view of what matters and why.

  • Shape the product: write the spec, design the interface, make the tradeoffs, and keep the scope focused enough to ship quickly.

  • Build and ship production features in TypeScript and React. Use AI coding tools to move faster while understanding, reviewing, and testing the code you release.

  • Follow the result through to actual use. Watch where customers struggle, investigate failures, and improve the experience.

  • Maintain what you build. Fix bugs, handle edge cases, and make the system easier for the next engineer to understand.

  • Work closely with the rest of the team when your product touches shared infrastructure, AI behavior, or customer workflows.

What we're looking for
  • You've personally taken a product or substantial feature from an idea to production. You can explain the customer problem, your decisions, and what happened after launch.

  • You can ship TypeScript and React in an existing codebase without constant direction. You understand the code well enough to debug it when AI tooling gets something wrong.

  • You have strong product and design judgment. You care about how an interface works as well as how it looks.

  • You know outbound sales from experience: researching prospects, sending campaigns, handling replies, and selling a product. You can spot where the tools get in the way.

  • You take initiative and can defend a product decision, hear criticism, and change course when the evidence calls for it.

  • You move quickly and take responsibility for quality, maintenance, and the customer outcome.

You may have founded a company, worked as a sales engineer, or moved from sales into building software. Those are useful paths into this role. The strongest evidence is work you've shipped and can explain in detail.

Useful additional experience

A sales, CRM, or outbound product with real users would be valuable. So would a public body of work: shipped products, a GitHub repository, or a technical write-up that shows how you think and build.

How we work

This role is based in our San Francisco or New York office, in person five or more days per week, and reports to Jaspar. Expect a small team, short feedback cycles, direct communication, and high standards.

You'll have substantial freedom to choose an approach and the responsibility to make it work. We value people who surface problems early, share useful feedback, and care about the details of what they ship.

Interview process
  1. A 15-minute conversation with Jaspar.

  2. A paid, 48-hour take-home: design and ship a real feature for Ava.

  3. A 60-minute review with our founders and an engineer.

  4. A 30-minute conversation in person.

We can move from first conversation to offer in three to five days.
