Job Description Summary Reporting to the Dean of Cornish College of the Arts, the Budget and Operations Manager will oversee all budget analysis, planning and reporting, as well as grant budgeting in the College. This position will also serve as a facilities liaison for the College and work with Facilities regarding maintenance and contracts for South Lake Union campus buildings.
Position Description
Budgeting (45%)
- Work with the College and University leadership to develop and submit an annual operating budget and make strategic budgetary projections and recommendations.
- Develop annual budget based on strategic plan.
- Review salaries, benefit rates and non-salary budgets.
- Project faculty FTE based on curriculum offerings, coordinate course assignments and budgets with shared faculty in other colleges, and update budget projections based on enrollment changes.
- Develop budgets for new programs and grant proposals and prioritize list of funding requests.
- Develop new funding requests for current programs, re-allocate budgets among departments as necessary.
- Review and approve expenditures, travel reimbursements and purchase requisitions for all school budgets, including salary and operating budgets, institutional, endowed funds and gift accounts.
- Oversee purchasing for departmental annual capital equipment allocations, including developing request forms and assisting with purchases.
- Manage financial aspects of job postings and position descriptions for school staff, temporary employee hiring and supplemental pay postings.
- Reporting and Reconciliations (25%)

- Reconcile monthly faculty and staff payroll report for accuracy.
- Analysis of faculty salary encumbrance reports including: FTE comparison with prior years, reconcile adjunct salary pool with actual adjunct contracts, and monitor labor charges to sabbatical, medical and release budgets.
- Update and reconcile commitments from gift accounts.
- Reconcile quarterly FRX grant reports.
- Reconcile graduate tuition splits with outside partner 501 (c) (3) organizations.
- Monitor charges to all budgets.
- Faculty Contracting (15%)
Faculty Contracting (15%)
- Calculate across-the-board faculty salary increases.
- Convert faculty merit points to salary merit increases.
- Review faculty salary percentages based on FTE, phased retirements and sabbaticals.
- Update master worksheet for all full-year contracted faculty including budget labor charges.
- Submit adjunct faculty contract information to Faculty Services each quarter.
- Ensure all adjunct contracts are received by contract deadline.
- Administrative Operations (15%)

- Meet with facilities regarding SLU building safety and maintenance.
- Review contracts for compliance with budget.
- Review active grant proposals for budget compliance and potential cost sharing.
- Represent College on select university committees such as directed.

- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field plus at least 3 years’ experience in a relevant role, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job (MBA preferred)
- Must have the capability to oversee multiple budgets, generate spreadsheets, records and reports preparation, and word-processing experience.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups effectively.
- Need strong oral presentation skills and ability to produce complex reports with clarity for diverse audiences.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Must have excellent time management and organizational skills to complete multiple tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
