Job description

The School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the positions of Budget Analyst and Senior Budget Analyst. These roles involve assisting in the preparation and submission of the School of Medicine's annual budget and multi-year financial plans to the University Budget Office and the Health System. As key members of the budget team, these positions play a central role in developing the annual budget, multi-year financial plans, and other related projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist in the preparation of the School of Medicine budget, reviewing revenues and expenditures to ensure conformance with guidelines from the University Budget Office and the Health System.
  2. Compile and extract data from Anaplan for use in budget and multi-year plan submissions to the Adaptive system.
  3. Develop in-depth knowledge of the Workday Accounting Structure and the UFM Fund Accounting Structure of the University.
  4. Gain a thorough understanding of Anaplan budget models.
  5. Create reports and spreadsheets using software such as Anaplan and Excel.
  6. Provide analytical support using Excel, Anaplan, and other tools as needed.
  7. Analyze budgetary changes and trends, understanding their drivers.
  8. Respond promptly to budgetary questions from the Budget Office and Provost teams.
  9. Recommend and assist with system and data compilation improvements to adhere to budgetary guidelines.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualified candidates will be considered for either position:

Budget Analyst
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: Two years in a related field, or six years of progressive relevant experience in budget analysis or financial planning in lieu of a degree.
Senior Budget Analyst
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: Four years in a related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Ability to build relationships and develop partnerships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Experience querying databases, running reports, and applying data analytics.
  • Knowledge of UVA systems like Workday, Adaptive, and UBI (Qlik) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Anaplan is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary role involving extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel to attend meetings and programs may be required.
