Position Summary:

This role involves patient care in the emergency department under the medical direction of the EMS Medical Director. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting patient care according to organizational policies and professional standards. The position is accountable for the quality of patient services delivered and utilizes specialized knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.

Core Functions:

  1. Evaluate patient acuity and match care needs with hospital resources, interpreting data to identify patient requirements.
  2. Perform basic patient care within scope of training: positioning, transportation, phlebotomy, ECGs, maintaining spinal precautions, administering or monitoring medications as ordered, and assisting with transfers.
  3. Perform cardiovascular monitoring and management within scope of training.
  4. Manage airway within scope of training, including oxygen administration, suctioning, ventilation assistance, positioning, and monitoring.
  5. Participate actively in resuscitation of critical patients and monitor patients through diagnostic phases.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned based on competency and training.
  7. Recognize and report changes in patient status to the charge nurse, primary nurse, and physician.
  8. Document assessments, interventions, patient progress, and discharge plans accurately.
  9. Interact with staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to coordinate care and report information.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Valid Paramedic certification/license in the state of practice, with current BLS and ACLS certifications; PALS if working in ED or with pediatric patients.
  • 2-4 years relevant work experience or 12-18 months in an educational program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FP-C or CCT-P certification for ICU, Burn, or CVCU roles.

Additional education and experience may be preferred.
