The City of Weslaco seeks a Brush Collection Division Supervisor to oversee the collection and transportation of brush and bulky items throughout the city using heavy machinery. You will ensure safe, efficient service and address residents' concerns.

Responsibilities include supervising crews, operating equipment such as grapple brush trucks, backhoe, front-end loader, and tractors; maintaining records and assisting in budgeting; and enforcing safety practices.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • CDL Class B Texas license preferred but not required.
  • Experience in supervising crews and coordinating field work helpful.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols for heavy equipment operations desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee pickup and transport of brush and bulky items to keep streets clean.
  • Operate grapple trucks, backhoes, loaders, and tractors as needed.
  • Address resident complaints and ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Monitor efficiency of collection methods and procedures.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate division personnel.
  • Assist in purchasing and obtaining vendor price quotes.
  • Maintain safety practices and division records.
  • Assist in preparing the branch budget and expense requests.
  • Possibly work beyond normal hours, including nights or weekends.

Job Summary

Employee is responsible for overseeing the Brush Collection division, ensuring the collection and transportation of brush and bulky items within the areas of the City of Weslaco with the use of heavy machinery and other equipment. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.

Essential Job Functions
  • Oversees the pickup and transportation of large quantities of brush, bulky items, and other solid refuse collected for streets and alleyways to ensure safe and clean residential and commercial areas free from debris.
  • Oversees the operation of various equipment including grapple brush trucks, backhoes, front end loaders, and utility tractors.
  • Receives complaints for locations not meeting collection guidelines such as illegal dumping, low wires, low branches, junked vehicles, and/or improper positioning of brush and debris; and determines the appropriate measures to resolve the issue.
  • Receives inquires and complaints submitted by residents regarding their brush pickup services and ensures they are addressed and resolved.
  • Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service methods and procedures.
  • Responsible for selecting, training, motivating, and evaluating of personnel.
  • Oversees and preforms purchases for brush collection division including acquiring price quotes from vendors.
  • Demonstrate, train, follow-up and enforce proper safety practices and procedures within the division.
  • Develop and maintain various records of division activities, both written and computer generated.
  • Assists in the preparation of department's operating budget, submitting expenses and request for brush collection division.
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
  • May be required to operate heavy machinery and/or equipment as may be required.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
  • Must have a High School Diploma; or equivalent
  • Up to three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience to perform such job
  • Valid CDL Class "B" Texas Driver License; preferred but not required
  • Must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of safe and effective operation of equipment and machinery; working knowledge of brush collection division operations. Working knowledge of the location of city streets.
  • Ability to utilize and comprehend maps depicting city streets and blocks, pay careful attention to details, and perform work under extreme weather conditions for long periods of time. Ability to recognize unsafe working conditions to ensure that appropriate safety.
  • Employees must have the ability to make good judgment when making decisions regarding their regular job duties and be able to have the following mental functions: reading, simple math calculations, and withstanding moderate amounts of stress.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Work requires moderate intermittent physical strength and effort daily. Work includes lifting, moving, and positioning/ loading heavy objects (up to 100 lbs.), pulling, pushing, remain stationary or move about for the full workday may also be involved. Driving in adverse weather troublesome road conditions may be required. Duties may involve assignments requiring application of hand and eye coordination with finger dexterity and motor coordination. Examples include operating a motor vehicle, operates a personal computer or ascends / descends a ladder. May involve continuous presence, exposure of unpleasant or irritating elements, such as considerable noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt or grease. Work is continually performed outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Work generally contains one or more constant elements of stress such as being on call for 24 hours or being under prolonged pressure during emergency situations. Mental stress is usually present in the form of being required to weigh completing and concurrent demands under deadline pressures.

Salary: $16.00 per hour
