Job description

We are a boat building manufacturer in New York Mills, MN seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform preventive, routine, and troubleshooting maintenance in a large manufacturing facility. Maintenance tasks performed are in a variety of skilled trade areas (fabrication, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, tool and die repair, etc.).

Roles and Responsibilities

• Apply high energy, self‑motivation, and initiative to learn and be trained on various types of equipment and maintenance techniques, including resin and spray equipment, HVAC, plumbing, PLCs, VFDs, etc.
• Perform daily job duties that are varied and dynamic, requiring high levels of customer service and attention to detail.
• Track workload via daily schedules and assignments, ensuring quality and timeliness of completion.
• Comply with safety policies and procedures, identifying risks and hazards prior to job completion.
• Work throughout the facility with high foot travel; lift overhead within prescribed safety limitations; operate at heights (ladders, rooftops, booms, lifts, work platforms) and work outside in all weather conditions; maintain overall good physical condition and agility.
• Work hours: typically 4 days per week at 10 hours per day (5:30 AM – 4:00 PM), with weekend work scheduled according to workload and repair needs.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

• Two‑year technical degree or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3‑5 years facility maintenance experience preferred; substantive experience in one or more skilled trade areas (mechanical, electrical, fabrication) for 1–3 years and high school diploma/GED.
• Documented experience in CNC programming and diagnostics; HVAC; electrical and maintenance.
• Strong mechanical and electrical background, including electrical motor controls and ladder logic programming.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and build to specifications.
• Fabrication skills and ability to order materials for open work orders and jobs.
• Certification in forklift and high‑lift (genie boom) operations; operation of yard tractor, EPJ, articulating lift, pick‑up.
• Proficiency with a wide variety of hand tools, powered and manual.
• Reading measurement devices (Ohm/voltage meters, measuring tapes, calipers, gauges).
• Good safety awareness, attitude, and attendance; self‑starter and team player.
• Computer skills preferred.
• Knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, and LSS a plus.

Working Conditions

Regularly required to stand (90 %), walk, climb, and bend during the workday. Exposed to noise, dust, fumes, and odors daily. Physical exertion is required. Requirements include working at heights on booms, lifts, and platforms; lifting parts and pieces up to 50 lbs.; traveling up and down stairs regularly; sitting, squatting, and bending in various awkward positions for extended periods, including working overhead and being on your feet for the majority of the workday.

Benefits

The anticipated pay range for this position is $20.10–$24.00 per hour, based on qualifications and business needs.
