On Call Counsel in Bronx, NY is seeking an Attorney-Direct Hire to support a nonprofit helping residents with housing and eviction issues. The role is full-time with a hybrid schedule requiring court appearances.

The attorney will counsel clients, manage a full caseload in Bronx Housing Court and NYCHA, draft legal documents, and represent tenants at trials or hearings. Fluency in Spanish is beneficial.

Qualifications

• J.D from an ABA Accredited Law School.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience required.
• 2+ years of trial experience is a plus.
• Litigation experience in housing/public benefits is helpful.
• Ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide clients with counseling and assisting to ensure maintenance of housing.
• Handle a full caseload of full representation housing and eviction proceedings in Bronx Housing Court and NYCHA part.
• Represent tenants at trial and before administrative agencies as needed.
• Conduct outreach, including educational workshops and trainings.
• Prepare legal documents, motions, orders to show cause, and related papers.
• Maintain confidential records and communicate with other programs for referrals.
