Job summary

Wayne-Sanderson Farms is seeking a field supervisor to oversee broiler farms and act as a liaison with contracted growers. You will monitor house conditions, bird welfare, and provide technical recommendations to improve performance and reduce costs.

The role requires at least two years of poultry experience, strong English communication, and the ability to travel between locations. A safety-minded, proactive leader is essential to join our growing team.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years’ live poultry experience in a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements surrounding animal welfare and food production.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to communicate with internal and external customers in a timely and professional manner.
  • Must have exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with initiative and urgency in a fast paced environment.
  • Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude and energy.

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison between Company and contract growers providing technical advice on expectations (building/equipment specs, litter manipulation, sanitation, biosafety, etc.).
  • Provide chick placement, catch and feed withdrawal times to growers.
  • Monitor flocks to ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and laws; report noncompliance as needed.
  • Track, analyze and record bird mortality rates; communicate anomalies to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain feed tank inventories; order feed and coordinate deliveries timely.
  • Follow and promote safety initiatives to maintain a zero-accident culture.
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.

Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Primarily responsible for overseeing broiler farms as a Company representative to contracted growers. The role monitors house conditions and bird welfare and provides technical assistance and recommendations on improving conditions, grower performance, and cost reductions for the company and growers.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  • Act as liaison between Company and contract growers providing technical advice to growers on company expectations (i.e. building and equipment specifications, litter manipulation, farm sanitation, industry best practices, policies, procedures, bio security, etc.)
  • Provide chick placement, catch and feed withdrawal times to growers
  • Monitor assigned flocks (i.e. bird comfort, equipment settings, etc.) to ensure producers comply with all company policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines and federal and State policies, regulations and laws when handling poultry; report noncompliance and/or abnormalities to appropriate personnel
  • Track, analyze and record bird mortality rates, communicating anomalies to appropriate personnel as needed
  • Maintain feed tank inventories ordering feed and coordinating deliveries to ensure proper feed is delivered to growers in a timely manner
  • Follow and promote all safety initiatives helping to maintain a zero accident culture
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

There are no direct reporting responsibilities with this position; however, this position is a Leader of People position with required competencies: Strategic Agility, Business Acumen, Building Effective Teams, Customer Focus and Command Skills.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent and required experience or Associates degree in Poultry Science, Agricultural Science or related field; Bachelors’ degree preferred
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Minimum two (2) years’ live poultry experience in a similar environment
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements surrounding animal welfare and food production
  • Strong computer (i.e. Microsoft (Word, Excel, etc.) and math skills
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to communicate with internal and external customers in a timely and professional manner
  • Must have exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate in English
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times in areas where required
  • Read and understand MSDS sheets
  • Maintain updated knowledge and training/ certification on relevant safety topics
  • May be required to enter confined space
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs; occasionally required to lift overhead
  • Walks in an outside environment (including inclement weather conditions) on a daily basis
  • Ability to travel between assigned locations
