Job description

Working/Functional Title: Brody Sparty's Culinary Platform Attend

Position Summary

Performs basic food preparation functions while interacting directly with guests and assembling and serving food ingredients to create a unique customer experience. Assists cooks in food preparation as needed, using proper culinary techniques such as chopping, cutting, slicing, thawing, marinating, and sautéing. Applies culinary knowledge of garnishing and plate presentation. Interacts with customers and improvises dishes often in theatrical style. Maintains a clean, sanitary, and safe working environment by following good sanitation and safety practices.

Additional Notes

All positions in RHS are designated as critical status. In the event of university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to emergencies, employees are expected to report to work as scheduled. If remote work is approved, employees may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

Minimum Requirements
  1. High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. At least one year of full-time experience in food preparation and use of kitchen equipment.
  3. Knowledge of kitchen safety practices.
  4. Ability to read weights and measures, and to weigh and measure ingredients accurately.
  5. Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers and fractions.
  6. Knowledge of various food preparation methods such as sautéing, display cooking, deep frying, grilling, and steaming.
  7. Proficiency in using knives and standard kitchen equipment safely.
  8. Ability to prepare items using proper methods and timing to ensure freshly cooked products for continuous service.
  9. Ability to occasionally lift between 26 to 75 pounds.
