Job summary

Paramount's CBS News Washington Assignment Desk is seeking a Broadcast Associate to provide research and administrative support throughout the week in a fast-paced newsroom.

The ideal candidate can handle tight deadlines, multitask effectively, and bring a positive attitude to the team. Night and weekend availability is required, with opportunities for on-site and virtual engagement.

Qualifications

• Robust written and verbal communication skills.
• Team player who is detail-oriented, able to multitask, and stays calm under deadlines.
• A deep interest in Washington politics and policy, with understanding of the three government branches.
• Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, X, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube).
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related discipline preferred; stellar editorial judgment.

Responsibilities

• Work with newsroom team to gather news elements for breaking news, on-air packages, and digital stories.
• Track wire services, social media, and other sources.
• Research topics extensively and adapt to developing stories.
• Flag and fact-check stories and alert Bureau team to new developments.
• Log events including Capitol Hill hearings, speeches, and press conferences.
• Disseminate editorial notes to the news division.
• Craft language for professional news posts across social media platforms.
• Field-produce events on Capitol Hill, the White House, and other shoots and interviews.
• Maintain up-to-date bureau contacts and source lists.
• Be available to work night and weekend schedules.

The CBS News Washington Assignment Desk is looking for a Broadcast Associate! This is someone the team relies on for research and administrative support throughout the week. The ideal candidate thrives under tight deadlines, multitasks well, and brings a positive attitude to a fast-paced newsroom.

Responsibilities

• - Work with the newsroom team, including Assignment Editors, Producers, and Associate Producers, to gather news elements for breaking news, on-air packages, and digital stories.
• - Track wire services, social media, and other sources.
• - Research a range of topics extensively and adjust quickly to developing stories.
• - Flag and fact-check stories, and alert the Bureau team to new developments.
• - Log events including, but not limited to, Capitol Hill hearings, speeches, and press conferences.
• - Disseminate editorial notes to the news division.
• - Craft language for professional news posts across social media platforms.
• - Periodically field-produce events on Capitol Hill, the White House, and other special shoots and interviews.
• - Maintain up-to-date bureau contact and source lists.
• - Be available to work night and weekend schedules.

Qualifications

• - Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related discipline preferred, with stellar editorial judgment.
• - Internship or comparable experience in broadcast, cable, or digital news a plus.
• - Knowledge of broadcast networks, stations, and markets a plus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $50,000.00 - 50,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
