Astound is seeking a hands-on Broadband Network Technician I to maintain and repair underground coax and fiber infrastructure. The role involves outdoor work daily, using ladders and hand tools to restore service and support network reliability.

You will detect, troubleshoot, and resolve outages, perform emergency restorations, and document work orders and logs. A high school diploma and 2+ years in telecom field work are required; driving and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years hands-on telecom field experience (coax, fiber, or electrical).
• Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
• Customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret maps.
• Strong problem-solving and time-management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages for data, video, and telephone.
• Emergency restoration of coax, fiber, underground cable; maintain power supply and splicing.
• Maintain documentation such as work orders and daily logs.
• Install, replace, and repair coaxial and fiber cabling (aerial and buried).
• Operate ladders and field equipment (test meters, fusion splicers).
• Observe and assist coworkers with fiber splicing activities.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

This is a hands‑on, field‑based role focused on maintaining and repairing underground coax and fiber infrastructure. The technician will work outdoors daily using ladders, and hand tools to restore service, perform preventative maintenance, and support network reliability.

• - The Broadband Network Technician I is responsible for detecting, troubleshooting and resolving system outages for data, video, and telephone.
• - This role will be responsible for emergency restoration of coax,Fiber,underground cable, maintenance of power supply, leakage, and splicing.
• - The BNT I is required to maintain documentation as needed.
• - Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages in aerial and/or underground capacities related to transmission levels, signal losses and off‑air interference.
• - Prepare and perform emergency underground coaxial cable restoration due to variables such as cable breaks and/or damage.
• - Perform preventative maintenance (power supply, actives) in the form of testing, balancing, alignment and adjustments of components or equipment
• - Monitor, record and repair cable leakage, complying with applicable regulations
• - Observe and assist co-workers with fiber splicing activities
• - Complete and distribute required documentation, such as work orders and daily logs
• - Install, replace, and repaircoaxial and fiber optic cabling, including aerial and buried plant
• - Operate ladders, and field equipment to include test meters, fusion splicers, and other necessary hand tools
• - Participation in a 24/7 on‑call rotation
• - Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

• - Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
• - Work performed in both climate‑controlled and non‑climate‑controlled environments, with potential exposure to heat, cold, dust, damp conditions, uneven surfaces, heights, and moving vehicles
• - Prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and driving required
• - Ability to safely climb and work from ladders for extended periods of time
• - Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs and ladders, and using hands above and below shoulder level
• - Ability to bend, twist, kneel, squat, crawl, and maintain various body positions and perform fine motor tasks, forceful gripping, and limited keyboarding

The base salary in Pennsylvania for this position is $21.47-$35.73 per hourplus opportunities for bonus, benefits and commission, if applicable. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities. It is specific to Pennsylvania and may not be applicable to other locations.
