Job description

Patriot Broadband Technologies - Inside Plant Network Deployment Engineer

Patriot Broadband Technologies has an immediate opening for an experienced Inside Plant Network Deployment Engineer to join our talented ISP team. The role involves completing projects in New Holland, PA area and other out-of-state headend locations as needed. Candidates should have experience with rack/stack/DC power components and be willing to travel as required. Please note, this role is NOT remote and requires knowledge of cable TV headend systems. It is not a network security position.

Overview:

You will support the installation and troubleshooting of telecom infrastructure within headend and hub facilities, including tasks involving RF (active and passive), fiber systems, optical splitters, lasers, receivers, equipment racks, low voltage/DC wiring, grounding, fiber guides, structured cabling, and CAT 5/6 cables. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in a Central Office environment handling complex tasks efficiently is required.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Follow engineers’ instructions and specifications, maintain project scope, and adhere to safety procedures.
  2. Prepare engineering field notes and interpret engineering drawings and maps, making recommendations for changes as needed.
  3. Adhere to customer timelines and ensure project profitability.
  4. Install and migrate ISP node splits.
  5. Install, configure, provision, and troubleshoot headend equipment.
  6. Perform prep and installation of connectors on fiber and coax cabling.
  7. Test and troubleshoot RF and optical circuits using appropriate equipment.
  8. Work independently and as part of a team, coordinating activities across departments.
  9. Travel as needed for project requirements, including longer hours or overnight work for migrations and outage resolution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of telecom tools, ISP practices, and networks.
  • Experience with structured cable installation, dressing cables, terminations, etc.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft applications and IP networking.
  • Understanding of DC power systems.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic cables, their makeup, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Experience with ISP racks, cabinets, ladder racks, fiber guides, and termination panels.
  • Familiarity with cable testing procedures and equipment.
  • Understanding of inside plant safety and data center security protocols.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.
  • Ability to read and interpret ISP diagrams and maintain accurate field notes.
  • Preferred: Cisco Network IP configuration and troubleshooting skills.
Education and Experience:
  • High School/GED and technical training or equivalent.
  • 5+ years relevant experience in the industry or similar roles.
  • Recent or current employment within the last 90 days in the CATV network industry, specifically in cable TV data centers.
  • Focus on CATV headend equipment deployment and configuration.

Qualifications:

  • Physical ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel outside Pennsylvania up to 25% of the time for projects.
