Job description

Overview

The Store Manager is responsible for the successful day-to-day operation of the Brighton Store, a unique mountain retail and convenience operation offering grab-and-go food, grocery essentials, and retail merchandise. This role ensures the store is consistently well-stocked, organized, clean, and ready to meet the needs of guests and employees in a fast-paced mountain environment.

A key focus of this position is effective food and beverage management, particularly the handling, rotation, replenishment, and availability of perishable products. The Store Manager maintains appropriate inventory levels, ensures fresh and appealing food options are available throughout operating hours, and upholds all applicable food safety and sanitation standards.

Equally important, the Store Manager builds and leads a productive, collaborative team by setting clear expectations, delegating responsibilities, developing employees, and fostering an environment of goodwill, accountability, and mutual respect. The ideal candidate combines strong operational judgment with a hands-on leadership style and the ability to keep people, products, and priorities moving efficiently during busy periods.

Responsibilities
Store Operations and Guest Experience
  • Oversee daily store operations, ensuring the Brighton Store is clean, organized, fully stocked, and ready to serve guests throughout the day.
  • Maintain consistent availability and presentation of grab-and-go food, grocery essentials, beverages, and retail merchandise.
  • Establish and maintain operational routines for opening, closing, replenishment, cleaning, and general store readiness.
  • Monitor guest needs and purchasing patterns to ensure product offerings align with demand, seasonal trends, and mountain operations.
  • Deliver a welcoming, efficient, and consistent guest experience, resolving concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, product availability, store presentation, and overall operational efficiency.
Food and Beverage Management
  • Oversee the daily management of food and beverage offerings, with particular attention to perishable products, freshness, quality, and availability.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels and ensure food options are replenished proactively throughout operating hours.
  • Manage product rotation, expiration dates, storage conditions, temperature monitoring, and waste reduction in accordance with food safety requirements.
  • Ensure all food handling, sanitation, storage, and preparation practices meet applicable health regulations and Brighton Resort standards.
  • Monitor product demand and sales trends to anticipate replenishment needs and minimize stockouts, spoilage, and unnecessary waste.
  • Coordinate ordering and receiving to ensure products arrive on time, are stored correctly, and are available when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records related to inventory, food safety, waste, and other operational requirements.
Inventory and Merchandising
  • Manage inventory across food, beverage, grocery, and retail merchandise categories.
  • Establish effective inventory controls, conduct regular counts, investigate discrepancies, and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Forecast product needs based on sales patterns, anticipated traffic, seasonality, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate purchasing and replenishment to maintain appropriate inventory levels without excessive overstock.
  • Ensure merchandise and food displays are organized, visually appealing, properly priced, and consistently replenished.
  • Manage receiving, stocking, backstock organization, and product storage to support efficient daily operations.
  • Monitor shrink, spoilage, and product loss while identifying opportunities to improve inventory accuracy and profitability.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Lead, supervise, and develop store employees, creating a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Clearly communicate priorities, assign responsibilities, and delegate work effectively to ensure all operational needs are met.
  • Maintain a productive team by setting clear performance expectations, providing coaching, and holding employees accountable for results.
  • Organize daily work assignments and adjust staffing and responsibilities in response to guest traffic and changing operational demands.
  • Recognize employee contributions, address performance concerns constructively, and support ongoing employee development.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance management as needed.
  • Lead by example, remaining hands-on during busy periods while empowering employees to take ownership of their responsibilities.
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
  • Monitor sales, labor, inventory, and product waste to support operational and financial goals.
  • Manage labor and scheduling to align staffing levels with business demands.
  • Review operational results and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, control costs, and increase sales.
Safety and Resort Standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for employees and guests.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and employment requirements.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and respect across all store operations.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in retail management, grocery operations, food and beverage, convenience store management, or a comparable customer-facing operation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of perishable food management, including product rotation, freshness, storage, replenishment, and waste control.
  • Experience managing inventory across multiple product categories, preferably including food, beverages, and retail merchandise.
  • Proven ability to lead a team, delegate responsibilities, establish priorities, and maintain accountability.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to anticipate operational needs before they affect product availability or guest service.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, resolve conflict, and foster a positive team culture.
  • Basic financial and operational acumen, including an understanding of sales, labor costs, inventory controls, and product waste.
  • Current food handler certification or the ability to obtain required certifications within the established timeframe.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to work in a dynamic mountain resort environment with fluctuating guest volumes and seasonal business demands.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and regularly lift, carry, move, and stock merchandise and supplies in accordance with the physical requirements of the position.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and peak winter operating periods.
  • Ability to balance hands-on operational work with administrative responsibilities and team leadership.
