Job summary
Texas Department of Transportation in Dallas Mesquite area seeks a Bridge Team Lead to supervise bridge inspection tasks, lead in-house design, 3D bridge modeling, plan preparation, and research implementation. Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science (TX PELS accepted).
- 7 years engineering/transportation engineering experience for TE IV; 8 years for TE V.
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Texas or able to obtain within six months.
Responsibilities
- Assist districts with bridge inspection-related matters.

- Travel to project sites for on-site reviews and technical support.

Dallas District's Bridge Section is looking to hire a Bridge Team Lead based in Mesquite, TX. This engineer will help preserve our significant financial investment in Texas bridges, meet and exceed the Federal Highway Administration's requirements for state Bridge Inspection Programs, and lead a team responsible for in-house bridge and special structures design, plan preparation, 3D bridge modeling, and research implementation. The role also involves training team members, ensuring quality control, and creating bridge repair plans and follow-up action reviews.
Dallas District oversees the maintenance, inspection, and monitoring of more than 7000 bridges. As a District, we have more structures than most states. Responsibilities for this position will include routine inspections, special inspections, condition surveys, QA/QC of inspections and preparation and review of scour documentation. Transportation Engineer IV B27: $84,182.00 - $142,374.00/year
Transportation Engineer V B28: $92,600.00 - $156,612.00/year
This position is for a Transportation Engineer IV or V. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.
Minimum Salary: 90,000.00
Maximum Salary: 126,000.00

Transportation Engineer IV, V: Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
- Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters.
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
- Inspects structures for impact damage and/or construction problems.
- Schedules, assigns, and oversees bridge inspection activities.
- Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards.
- Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.
- Monitors contract performance evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance.
- Leads/trains professional and administrative staff
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Designs highly complex bridge projects and performs specialized design.
- Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for advanced and highly complex projects.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Transportation Engineer IV - 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
Transportation Engineer V - 8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). - Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
