Job summary

Branch Civil is seeking a Structures Foreman to provide direct in-field supervision of a bridge and structures crew on heavy highway projects. You will be the site safety lead, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to company standards, while coordinating with the Structures Superintendent.

The role requires strong plans/blueprints reading, collaboration with Owner/Engineer, and the ability to manage materials and equipment effectively. Travel to project sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 3+ years' experience in managing a crew in heavy highway/bridge construction.
  • Experience with DOT and/or Federal projects; familiarity with construction specs.

Job description

Branch Civil is searching for a Structures Foreman is responsible for providing direct in-field supervision of a bridge & structures crew working on all phases of a heavy highway/civil concrete or steel structure and/or various other related construction projects; maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control. The Structures Foreman is the front-line safety officer for the site/project and is directly responsible for the safety of their crew. This position will work closely with the Structures Superintendent to ensure quality and workmanship meet the Company's standards.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Ensures crew maintains professional relations with Owner, Engineer, and other members of the team.
  • Builds job by plans and specifications as directed by supervisor.
  • Prior to commencing work activities, develops and executes an effective plan in cooperation with the Superintendent for his/her area of responsibility and determines the means and methods necessary (including individual work activities) to meet project goals.
  • Assures the proper storage of materials and rented equipment, including regular checks of job for material and equipment inventory.
  • Assures the proper operation and maintenance of equipment under their control, including appropriate applications for the respective equipment.
  • Knowledgeable of inspection requirements and material or equipment requirements.
  • Recognizes and immediately reports any requests for extra work.
  • Prepares or assists the Superintendent in the preparation of daily reports, work unit quantity reports, equipment reports, and receipt of materials.
Duties/Responsibilities Cont.
  • Assures quality control and contract compliance of grading activity under his/her supervision.
  • Is in direct charge of safety and accident control for structures crew.
  • Participates in safety meetings and the implementation of effective safety programs and communication of Miss Utility policy.
  • Cooperates with Corporate Safety managers to ensure OSHA compliance at jobsites.
  • Assists in conducting post-incident investigations.
  • Identifies and recommends workers for consideration for potential career growth opportunities.
  • Responsible for training and development of workers.
  • Attends End-of-shift meetings and is prepared to discuss coordination & operation issues.
  • Regularly conducts effective morning meetings.
  • Participates in Weekly Team Meeting and helps develop the weekly work plan.
  • Promotes work environment that fosters good employee morale with emphasis on mutual respect.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 3+ years' experience in managing a crew in heavy highway/bridge construction
  • 5+ years of heavy civil/structures construction experience.
  • Familiarity with generally accepted construction specifications, means, and methods is required.
  • Experience with DOT and/or Federal projects
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with experience working in a team environment.
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • Must have a valid driver's license and must meet Branch Group Fleet Policy requirements and maintain "Approved Driver" status.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications
  • Hands-on construction experience with driving pile, forming concrete, placing concrete, erecting precast concrete members and erecting structural steel.
  • Knowledge of all types of bridge construction equipment, forming systems, and the calculation/setting of grades.
Compensation

Salary Min: $58,474.50
Salary Max: $100,245
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.

Travel is infrequent at project site. However, employee should be willing and able to travel to project site.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will potentially supervise 5 or more employees.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Work is often performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageway. Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools. Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds personally, and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position which will typically involve 50+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
