Job summary

Larson Design Group in Wilkes-Barre, PA is seeking a Bridge Safety Inspection Team Assistant to perform NBIS and related inspections with our team. You will work with other inspectors to ensure accurate field data collection and reporting.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (preferred), 1–5 years of experience, CBSI certification or ability to obtain, and a valid driver's license. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.

Responsibilities

• Perform NBIS and PennDOT Pub 238 inspections on bridges and structures.
• Evaluate conditions, identify deficiencies, and code structures in I-forms.
• Record and maintain inspection data using i-forms and BMS2; prepare draft reports from field data.
• Use hand tools, ladders, lifts, and under-bridge cranes to access inspection areas.
• Apply non-destructive testing methods and measuring devices during inspections.
• Compile maintenance needs from inspection findings for project teams.

Your Opportunity + Impact

The Bridge Safety Inspection Team Assistant is responsible for performing bridge safety inspections and other structure related inspections in accordance with NBIS and PennDOT Pub 238. This position will work closely with other team members to ensure inspections are completed accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspects structures in accordance with NBIS and Pub 238.
• Evaluates the conditions of structures, identifies deficiencies and properly codes structure in I‑forms.
• Records and maintains records of conditions of structures using i‑forms and BMS2.
• Utilizes hand tools to remove defective materials in order to properly evaluate conditions on individual parts of a structure.
• Uses ladders, hydraulic man‑lifts, and under‑bridge cranes to access portions of structures that are otherwise inaccessible.
• Uses measuring devices and other non‑destructive testing methods.
• Prepares preliminary draft inspection reports from field inspection data using i‑forms.
• Compiles maintenance needs from structure inspections.

Education and Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field strongly preferred.
• Experience: 1‑5 years experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: CBSI certification or ability to obtain CBSI. Valid Drivers License required
