Job summary

Larson Design Group is seeking a Bridge Safety Inspection Team Assistant to perform NBIS and PennDOT Pub 238 inspections. You will work with the team to ensure accuracy and efficiency in inspections, documenting findings and maintaining records.

The role requires a Civil Engineering background, CBSI certification (or ability to obtain), and a valid driver’s license, with 1–5 years of related experience preferred. Exposure to field inspections and safety-critical duties is expected.

Qualifications

• Education required or strongly preferred in civil engineering or related field.
• CBSI certification or ability to obtain; valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Perform NBIS and Pub 238 bridge inspections accurately and efficiently.
• Evaluate structural conditions, identify deficiencies, and code in I-forms.
• Record inspections using i-forms and BMS2; maintain meticulous records.
• Utilize hand tools to assess materials and accessibility on structure parts.
• Access structures with ladders, man-lifts, and under-bridge cranes as needed.
• Apply non-destructive testing methods and measurement devices.
• Draft preliminary inspection reports from field data.
• Summarize maintenance needs from inspection results.

Your Opportunity + Impact

The Bridge Safety Inspection Team Assistant is responsible for performing bridge safety inspections and other structure related inspections in accordance with NBIS and PennDOT Pub 238. This position will work closely with other team members to ensure inspections are completed accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspects structures in accordance with NBIS and Pub 238.
• Evaluates the conditions of structures, identifies deficiencies and properly codes structure in I‑forms.
• Records and maintains records of conditions of structures using i‑forms and BMS2.
• Utilizes hand tools to remove defective materials in order to properly evaluate conditions on individual parts of a structure.
• Uses ladders, hydraulic man‑lifts, and under‑bridge cranes to access portions of structures that are otherwise inaccessible.
• Uses measuring devices and other non‑destructive testing methods.
• Prepares preliminary draft inspection reports from field inspection data using i‑forms.
• Compiles maintenance needs from structure inspections.

Education and Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field strongly preferred.
• Experience: 1‑5 years experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: CBSI certification or ability to obtain CBSI. Valid Drivers License required

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet project deadlines effectively.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
