Job summary

State of Michigan in the Bay Region is seeking Transportation Maintenance Workers (6, 7, E8) to perform bridge/culvert maintenance and roadside activities. Duties include repair of substructure and superstructure, sign fabrication/installation, vegetation work, and maintenance of rest areas.

A CDL Group A with N/X endorsement and no air brake restrictions must be obtained within 12 months. No specific experience is required for the 6 level; 1 year for 7; 2 years for E8, with potential training

Qualifications

• Possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of appointment.
• CDL Group A with N or X endorsement and no air brake restrictions to be obtained within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair bridges/culverts, substructure and superstructure of concrete and steel (Bay Region Crews).
• Support region-wide sign shop activities: fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings.
• Roadside work including tree/shrub trimming, planting and pesticide spraying; maintain roadside parks and rest areas.
• Assist Electricians with maintenance/installation of energized traffic devices; snow/ice duties in winter as needed.
