Job summary

The New York State Department of Transportation is seeking a Bridge Repair Assistant to support masonry, carpentry, equipment operation, sandblasting, welding and traffic control under the supervision of a Trade Specialist Bridge. The role requires readiness to perform snow and ice operations outside the primary location and to report within one hour of call up.

Minimum qualifications include journey level experience or completion of a technical bridge/technical trade course, and a Class B

Qualifications

• Journey Level requires two years’ experience in maintenance or mechanical work or training through a technical course in a bridge/technical trade.
• Must have a Class B Commercial Driver License.
• Trainee 2 requires CDL and more than one but less than two years of qualifying experience.
• Trainee 1 requires Class D license and less than one year of qualifying experience.

Responsibilities

• Masonry, carpentry, equipment operation, sandblasting, welding, and use of other materials and traffic control under supervision of a Trade Specialist Bridge.
• Perform snow and ice operations in areas other than work location.
• Report within a maximum of one hour of call up.
