Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson in Philadelphia is seeking a senior civil engineer to design and coordinate projects with limited supervision, acting as technical advisor to junior staff.

Requires ABET-accredited degree, PE license, 7–10 years of experience, proficiency in discipline-specific design software and MS Office; hybrid work with 3 days in office.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work on a major project or a project of moderate scope.
• Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, and data to plan projects.
• Design projects per client specifications using design software and drawing tools.
• Prepare engineering documents for advertisement and construction.
• Coordinate with internal teams to ensure project completion on time and quality.
• Lead and manage team members, provide leadership and performance feedback.

Position Summary:Responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
• Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
• Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
• Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
• Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
• Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines
• Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
• Prepare proposals as required
• Attend meetings with clients
• Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
• Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
• 7-10 years’ experience in specialized discipline
• Professional Engineer License
• Proficient in discipline specific design software
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Written and communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with local clients at the county and state level

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Hybrid with 3-days/week in the Philadelphia office required.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
